Ballinasloe Women’s Group and the Knitting and Crochet group are binging colour, vitality, and personality to some of Ballinasloe’s public spaces this Autum!
They started off last week by covering Ballinasloe’s famous Horse and Handler sculpture. Yarnbombing is a type of temporary street art where public structures are covered with knitted or crocheted creations.
Over the last number of months, the 2 groups as well as friends in the Millrace Apree nursing home have been working away crocheting the most amazing designs which will bring a ray of sunshine into all our lives!
The Ballinasloe Women’s group meet every Thursday in the library for chats, activities, and lots of fun. The group is delighted to have members not only from Ballinasloe, but also from across the globe and recently welcomed some new Ukrainian friends. The group is supported by Ballinasloe Library as well as Galway Rural Development and Galway County PPN.
The Knitting and Crochet group under the leadership of the amazing Carol Slevin have been meeting in the library on Wednesday mornings for the last 15 years and they bring joy and happiness to every meeting.
Special thanks to the library staff for facilitating the meetings, to Karyn in GRD for supplying the yarn and to Cllr. Dr. Evelyn Francis Parsons for all the support.
Mostly a big shout-out to all the women who have contributed and who had so much fun along the way. with a very special nod to Patsi and Carol who everyone agrees are our yarnbombing heroes. For info about the groups contact the library on: ballinasloe@galwaylibrary.ie.
